A vintage-style seal featuring an owl with large eyes and detailed feathers, perched on an ornate key. The coin has the text "Society for Improbable Discoveries" and the year 1878, with Latin phrase "Tempus Revelabit".

The Society for Improbable Discoveries

Founded in 1878, the Society for Improbable Discoveries exists to investigate, preserve, and document discoveries that fall beyond the accepted boundaries of history, science, and natural philosophy. For nearly a century and a half, its expeditions, correspondence, specimens, and research remained confined to the Society's own records, available only to a small circle of appointed members. Recent releases authorized under Charter Article V have, somewhat reluctantly, brought portions of those collections into public view for the first time. A more detailed yet still incomplete history can be read HERE>.

The Archive

The Archive serves as the Society's public repository for materials released under Charter Article V. While the Society has historically found little value in maintaining a public presence, compliance with the Sunset Provision now requires selected journals, photographs, correspondence, field reports, and specimen records to be catalogued for outside examination. The process is ongoing. Many collections remain sealed, others are incomplete, and the Archives Department reserves the right to correct, expand, or withdraw records as additional materials become available.
